Evergreen, herbaceous, perennial alpine plant that grows to 4-7 cm in height and is extremely frost hardy.
It forms a dense, slow-growing cushion composed of multiple rosettes. The leaves are green with red tinges, quite fleshy, 3-5 cm long and the edges have sparse, short hairs.
As with many alpine plants the flowers close at night while they are young and flowering lasts about a month.
The pretty flowers are about 12 mm in diameter, with five petals are usually white with yellow spot at the base.
