This huge tree is native to the Mount Tomah area. It can grow to 60m but tends to reach about 40m.
It prefers cooler climates with lots of rain and rich soils.
Eucalyptus fastigata has a broad, straight trunk with grey-brown, fibrous bark.
The bark of the upper branches has a smooth surface and tends to be a white or cream colour.
It has grey green lanceolate to falcate leaves that hang vertically.
It produces cream to white coloured stamenous flowers.
This tree is not really suitable for general garden use, not only because of its size but because it doesn't always flower every year.
Tends to be grown commercially for use as an internal building material or in pulp production.
In the wild it is an important habitat for tree-dwelling marsupials.
