Nidularium fraudulentum are evergreen perennials native to the woodlands and forests of Brazil where they will are found to a height of 2,000m.
These are very similar to Neoregelia they have broad pale green leaves with spiny margins that grow in a rosette formation around a central well. The well or tank collects and stores water and is the plants main source of water, the roots primary purpose is to hold the plant in place.
During summer a dramatic display of bright red bracts surrounding clusters of small mauve to white flowers is produced in the centre of the plant.
Nidularium fraudulentum adds a tropical feel to shady gardens in the sub tropics and tropics. It can be grown inside but does need a moist atmosphere and indirect sunlight.
