Artemisia pontica, commonly known as Roman Wormwood or Small Absinthe, is an aromatic perennial herb with finely divided and attractive silver-gray foliage.
It typically grows in a bushy manner, reaching heights of 30 to 60 cm. The foliage is deeply lobed and feathery, providing good contrasting texture to gardens.
The small grey/yellow flowerheads appear in panicles at the tips of the stems in late summer but are of minor importance.
It is this plant that gives Vermouth its distinctive flavour.
The silvery-gray foliage of Artemisia pontica is often used in floral arrangements and wreaths for its attractive texture and color contrast. It can also be dried and used in potpourri or sachets.
