This is a perennial shrub native to the coastal dunes of South Africa it can grow to 2m but tends to grow to half that size.
Makes a great addition to any border with its soft grey-green aromatic leaves, bushy habit and long flowering season.
The flowers are produced in whorls along the upper portion of the stems. The delicate flowers are two lipped. The upper lip is erect, hooded and a deep purple to bluish purple. The lower lip is flatter and paler with darker spots in the centre. The petals emerge from a calyx that is funnel shaped, hairy and green with purple tips. The calyx like the leaves and stems are covered with glands that release a strong aroma when handled.
Salvias are a great choice for your garden beds. They have a bushy rounded shape, don't have any prickles or thorns and the leaves and stems give off a wonderful fragrance when touched.
