This perennial has tall cane-like stems and is a native on Central Mexico.
The tall canes form a dense and spreading clump. The mass of bright pink flowers add a fantastic splash of colour to any garden bed or border in summer and autumn.
The flowers are produced in whorls towards the end of each stems. The flowers are a marvellous deep magenta pink and the classic two lipped shaped of all Salvia. The upper lip is hooded and covered with velvety hairs and the lower lip flatter.
'Joan' - is a popular variety with deep green leaves and brilliant cerise flowers that flower from early spring to late autumn.
