Acaena buchananii is a fast growing mat forming perennial often used as groundcover or in rockeries.
The mid green to grey-green foliage forms a low dense mat. The pinnate leaves are made up of many leaflets with toothed margins giving the foliage a soft appearance. In summer insignificant cream flowers are produced on spherical heads on top of upright stalks above the foliage. In mid to late summer these heads develop rust red burrs.
They are quite spectacular and one of the reasons for growing this particular species.
