Acer x conspicuum 'Phoenix' has large, green leaves in summertime which turn to a firey gold in autumn.
The bark turns a greeny yellow colour with orange hints in summer and increases in colour density to a vivid orange with silver snake-like lines in winter.
The colder the winter the brighter the bark and it is this feature that is the key to popularity in cultivation.
Acer x conspicuum 'Phoenix' is a terrific medium sized garden tree providing year round interest.
Happiest in dappled sunlight, they will go well under larger trees - which will also serve to protect them from strong winds (which they do not like).
