Rudbeckia are bushy, upright perennials that have bright, daisy-like, composite, flowers, which are yellowy/orange with a brown centre. They are produced in profusion for up to 10 weeks throughout summer.
The flowers are either single per stem of corymbiform e.g. as a multi-flowered dome and have a prominent central cone which gives the plant its common name.
They are easy to grow and reward with splashes of vibrant colour. Best planted en-masse, especially in drifts in mixed borders, these are widely regarded as one of the best border flowers and good for cutting too.
They are attractive to birds who feed on the seeds after flowering - which can help reduce their spread as they self seed easily as well as by stoloniferous roots.
