Barleria micans or the Giant Shrimp Plant is an interesting, tropical, woody subshrub that starts erect and then tends towards a more straggly form.
It has simple lanceolate, veined, mid-green leaves.
It produces attractive yellow trumpet-shaped flowers which emerge from a candle-like row of prickly green bracts, with protruding, contrasting darker yellow stamen. They are attractive to birds and butterflies.
A close relative to the Justicia, its flowers have a similar form, hence the common name of Shrimp Plant.
