Cestrum nocturnum is a fast growing and rather straggly shrub - but beware it is extremely toxic to humans and animals.
It has an open habit with long arching branches. The leaves glow along the length of the branches they are glossy and deep green, avoid crushing them as they give off a rather nasty smell.
From late summer through autumn dense clusters of creamy, pale green tubular flowers are produced. During the day these have no scent but at night they give off an intense sweet (but can be dangerous) perfume.
The flowers are followed by green berries that turn white as they ripen in early winter.
Prefer full sun but will tolerate some shade. The prefer moist soils and are intolerant of both frost and drought.
This is a rather untidy shrub and tends to be grown as part of a mixed border.
