There are several prostrate forms of Casuarina glauca.
This species has fine leaves and a ground hugging growth habit.
It forms low dense mounds of foliage that spreads creating a dense mat up to 2m across.
When grown along retaining walls it will grow over the top of the wall and cascade down the sides.
And it is an excellent choice for ground cover.
The dense mat of foliage is great at suppressing the weeds and acts as a living mulch, reducing water loss from the soil.
It is also grown in areas with unstable soils as a soil and sand binder.
A great addition to any rockery or bank.
