Amsonia orientalis is a clumping perennial with lots of upright stems topped with clusters of pretty violet-blue star-like flowers.
They have a long flowering season from late spring through summer.
Growing to about 1.0m the stems are taller than many other species of Amsonia. The stems have sparsely spaced mid-green lanceolate leaves. In Autumn they still add colour contrast as the leaves turn a wonderful yellow before dying down for winter.
For best results plant in a sunny position in groups, work really well in wider garden borders.
