Salvia x jamensis is a group of colourful Salvia hybrids found in the mountainous area of Mexico. They are hybrids of Salvia greggi and Salvia microphylla and share qualities of each.
They are all shrubs growing to about 1m tall and wide. Most have a rounded growing habit with small, glossy, ovate leaves.
The two lipped flowers tend to have an open, flat lower lobe and small hooded upper lip. There are many cultivars of this hybrid, the colours varying from whites to pink, yellows and reds, some are also bi-coloured.
Planted in a location with good air circulation, drainage and full sun these will thrive and add colour to garden beds from summer through autumn.
One popular variety is 'Hot Lips' - the flowers that can vary from red to red and white to almost completely white and create a fantastic display from spring to early autumn
