Saponaria ocymoides or Rock Soapwort is a useful alpine perennial groundcover plant that will spill over rockeries, walls or tumble down sunny slopes.
They form a low mound of mid green, hairy, oval leaves that become almost totally obscured by terminal clusters of flat faced, pretty pink flowers in late spring to early summer.
They are particularly good as an edging to paths and driveways, as a front fill for mixed borders or tumbling over the edge of pots and planters.
