Geranium robertianum or Herb Robert is a pretty, branching perennial with attractive lacy foliage topped with clusters of small pink to purple, five petalled flowers.
This is a useful plant in that it thrives in shady, damp places and provides welcome colour in these difficult to fill spaces.
The slightly hairy foliage is deeply dissected, almost palmate and mid green turning shades of red later in the season while the stems are reddish in colour all year round.
A tea made from the leaves has many medicinal qualities.
This is a plant that has naturalised easily and is considered a weed in some areas.
