Callicarpa dichotoma or the Purple Beautyberry is a compact, ornamental shrub with long, arching branches that sometimes reach back to the ground.
They are primarily grown for their beautiful purple berries that appear in late summer to autumn and on into winter, even after the leaves have fallen in autumn.
Preceding the berries are small, pink to lavender coloured flowers that appear along the stems during summer and attract bees and butterflies to your garden.
The foliage is delicate, elliptic, mid-green turning to yellow and gold before dropping in autumn.
Fairly drought tolerant they go well in mixed borders and are useful as a deciduous hedge.
