Asclepias curassavica or the Tropical Milkweed is a frost tender, flowering perennial from tropical climes that will attract butterflies to your garden.
It has narrow, lance shaped leaves around 15cms long and from late spring it produces highly colourful umbels of bright orange and red flowers which mature into long, thin seed pods.
They are very attractive to butterflies and bees with Monarch butterflies laying their larvae on the plant, taking advantage of the poisonous nature of the sap to protect their young.
