Microsorum musifolium 'Crocodyllus' or the Crocodile Fern is perhaps a little mis-named in that its wonderfully patterned foliage more resembles snakeskin that the tough hide of a Croc.
The long and broad leaves feature a very attractive mosaic pattern with veins in black and mid to dark green.
These are plants for shade only, though they do like a good amount of light, albeit filtered or dappled.
They also go well in craggy tree trunks where they can grab a hold in cracks and crevices, especially at branch forks.
They also go well in rockeries, wedged in for anchoring or they also perform well as houseplants providing that they are kept well misted.
