Acalypha hispaniolae or Hispaniola Cat's Tail is a showy, ornamental with spike 5-7cm long of small crimson flowers. The lustrous, oval, mid green leaves, making for a striking appearance in warm, tropical gardens or glasshouses.
This is a dense bushy shrub with trailing habit. The leaves are ovated with a serrated margin and up to 20cms long and 10cms wide.
The fluffy catkin-like spikes of crimson flowers tend to have a pendulous habit. The flowers not only last a long time on the plant but also have a long flowering season from Spring to Autumn.
It is often used as an accent, for informal borders, or as a featured specimen or container plant.
