Chrysophyllum imperiale is a large tree from the tropics with very large and distinctive, veined, ovate leaves that can be up to 75cms long and 25cms wide. They are glossy green on top and furry on the undersides, while the leaf edges are serrated.
This tree naturally takes on a rounded crown shape.
The trunk tends to be quite straight with furrowed light brown bark
It is loosing its native habitat of forests around Rio de Janeiro and fast becoming an endangered species.
Creamy white flowers are produced in late springtime in loose clusters that mature to small, round, green fruits in autumn that have a taste similar to the Star Apple to which it is closely related.
