Chrysanthemoides monilifera, otherwise known as Boneseed or the Bitou Bush is a native of South Africa that was brought to Australia to stabilise sand dunes and re-colonise burnt out areas, but has since become an environmental weed and invasive species.
It is however useful in difficult costal conditions, providing plenty of bright green foliage, growing as a dense and bushy mound that is covered in daisy-like, yellow flowers in summer through to autumn.
If you do decide to grow this as a low screen then be prepared to remove any seedlings that set very easily - though this plant tends not to be a threat to agricultural land as it is prone to damage by foot or tyre traffic and is also attractive to livestock to graze on.
