Salvia verticillata 'Purple Rain' is an herbaceous perennial is a popular choice for borders, beds, pots and patios. It is frost and drought hardy.
During summer reddish flower spikes bear whorls of pale purple flowers, once these have fallen the stems still look pretty as the pinky-purple bracts remain on the stems. These are best planted en-masse adding swathes of colour to garden borders.
The leaves grow in tight domes under the flower spikes and form a thick green base that makes a great contrast to the purple flowers.
Good at attracting bees and butterflies.
