Spiraea japonica 'Genpei' is a deciduous low and spreading shrub. This really pretty dwarf form of Spiraea grows to 80m tall and spreads to about a metre.
It has clumping branches that bearing deep green, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic leaves with serrated margins.
In summer the plant is covered with corymb shaped clusters of deep pink and white flowers, some are a single colour and others a mixture of white and pink. The flowers are cup shaped with many soft fluffy stamen. After flowering seed pods are formed, these are not very attractive so it is worth removing the spent flowers regularly.
