Cochlioda vulcanica is an epiphytic orchid discovered in the cool, damp mountain forests of Equador and Peru in the late 19th century.
Growing from a flattened, ovoid pseudobulb, it produces a long stem bearing around a dozen pretty pink, star-shaped flowers that are around 3.5cms across.
They need a mild climate, between 13-25c with plenty of humidity and access to regular water, especially in summer - though as with all orchids, they do need extremely well drained soil and be allowed to dry between waterings.
Never let them totally dry out for prolonged periods.
