The native Rosella is a beautiful fast growing shrub with an open growth habit and plenty of showy flowers all summer. It is a perfect addition to sub-tropical and tropical gardens.
Although Hibiscus heterophyllus can grow to 6m it tends to grow to around 2m. Keeping it pruned after flowering will control the size and maintain the density.
The open flowers are large (up to 10cm across) with a deep red centre and petal colour ranging from whites and pinks to yellows and oranges. The flowers are very good at attracting birds and insects to your garden. The fruit are deep pink and edible, it can be eaten raw or cooked, many people love Rosella jam.
These lovely plants definitely give your garden a tropical feel.
