Papaver somniferum paeoniflorum is one of the most beautiful herbaceous annuals, producing doubled heads of striking blooms throughout springtime.
The foliage is glaucous or greyish/greeny/blue while the blooms can be pink, red, orange, apricot, purple of white. As their name suggests the flowers are very similar to paeonies, being very full and totally gorgeous.
These plants are best enjoyed when planted en-masse or in drifts in amongst mixed borders.
They also make excellent cut flowers, lasting well and attract birds, bees and butterflies to your garden.
