Sinningia leucotricha or the Brazilian Edelweiss is a long-lived, tuberous perennial that produces tall flower spikes atop which are held the downy greyish foliage and orange to red tubular flowers.
The leaves are around 25cms long and delightfully fuzzy, being covered in soft grey hairs that lay flat. These hairs drop off as the leaves mature, ending their lifespan smooth.
The flowers which appear in springtime are orange to salmon coloured and held just above the leaves.
This plant likes shade and just like African Violets need protection from strong sunshine, but, conversely, do like plenty of light, albeit diffuse. These plants go well in warm climates in outdoor settings or in pots to be kept indoors.
Temperature ranges between 18-30c are best.
