Callisia fragrans or the Basket Plant is a tropical, low growing plant resembling a Bromeliad.
Its key difference (apart from being from a totally different plant family) is that it produces runners which will root where they touch the ground - hence one of its common names, the Inch Plant.
These are popular houseplants as they can grow happily in low light, though the more light they receive the more purple appears in the leaf colour.
It produces small white and fragrant flowers on slender stalks
