Justicia scheidweileri or the Purple Shrimp Plant is a low maintenance, low growing tropical, evergreen perennial that will bring splashes of colour to shady areas.
It has long, pointed, velvety green leaves with broad, silvery veins that are attractive in their own right. but the main reason for growing them is the displays of wonderful burgundy coloured bracts from which emerge open throated, mauve flowers throughout the year in the tropics, but from spring to autumn in more temperate locales.
The blooms appear on upright spikes and this plant is a good performer in larger tubs and planters.
