Acanthostachys strobilacea or the Pinecone Bromeliad is an epiphytic Bromeliad with long, pendant, narrow, succulent and grooved leaves.
They droop well from hanging pots though they do have sharp teeth along the margins so watch out.
It produces an inflorescence on reed like stems bearing red pine-cone like fruit that are about 2.5 cms in length resembling a tiny pineapple.
This is naturally a clumping plant that is perfect for a hanging baskets and a good choice for xeriscaping being quite drought tolerant.
