Melaleuca fulgens is a popular Myrtle that is a common sight in domestic gardens. It is a woody, low and compact shrub that can grow to a maximum of 2 metres, though often seen shorter.
It has fine pine-needle-like foliage in shades of grey green and around 2mm long and gently fragrant when crushed.
The bottlebrush flowers are quite striking in shades of orange to red with golden tips and are arranged in in spikes on the side of the branches. Some are also seen in white.
Each spike can be up to 75mm in diameter, containing 6-20 individual flowers.
It flowers in springtime followed by woody capsule fruits.
Like many natives these plants will attract many birds and bees to your garden - particularly honeyeaters.
