Pycnanthemum pilosum, or the Hairy Mountain Mint, is a clump-forming perennial herb that is native to North America where it favours prairies, open dry and upland woodlands, thickets.
It features small, two-lipped, white flowers with purple flecks in mid summer through to early autumn.
The flowers appear in both terminal and axillary clusters and the leaves are narrow and very fragrant when crushed.
The flowers are attractive to bees - though it is not generally considered ornamental enough for borders, it goes well in herb gardens.
