Homoranthus porteri is a medium sized and upright native shrub from Queensland with short branchlets covered in foliage that looks almost like small pine needles e.g. it is cylindrical and short, around 1mm across.
It produces very attractive, bell-shaped, pendulous flowers in pairs that are deep carmine red colour. They have red bracts and and a style about 1.5cms long that protrudes.
Although an autumn bloomer, they can produce flowers sporadically throughout the year.
This isn't well known in cultivation, though it does grow well in Sydney at both the My Annan and Sydney Botanic Gardens. A pretty native that makes a good addition to a garden planted in that style.
