Kingia australis is a slow growing native grass tree which when not in flower can be mistaken for the better know Xanthorrhoea sp.
The flowers are creamy white and are borne on upright stems on spherical heads.
It has a trunk that is in fact just the remnants of the dead leaf bases and as such it is interestingly textured and gnarled. The grass-like leaves arch outwards from a tuft at the top. The dead leaves hang limply around the trunk like a skirt for some time.
