Hedera helix or common Ivy is a very hardy, evergreen climber that will cover anything with its dense, dark green foliage, from old buildings to steep banks and is very good at stabilising such areas.
It has glossy green triangular leaves that become ovate in time.
It produces aerial roots that will grip onto almost anything.
Care is needed to control it.
N.B. In most states it is classified as a noxious weed.
Ivy can look very good covering brick walls but take special care that the pointing is strong (not crumbling) as the tendrils of this plant will dig in and destroy it, therefore destabilising the wall eventually.
