Filipendula purpurea is a rhizontamous clumping perennial that is happiest in moist shaded areas.
These are grown for the good round ground cover of the stems and leaves and the large clusters (corymbs) of bright red to deep pink flowers that rise above the foliage in mid to late summer.
These grow well alongside a pond, fountain or stream and any woodland setting.
Frost hardy and will also go well at the rear of a border.
