This artichoke is a vigorous plant that will grow to 2m in height.
The chokes are round to slightly square in shape and vary in colour from medium green tinged with purple to mostly purple with splotches of green on the leaflet tips.
Thorns are prominent on most chokes.
The chokes themselves have large hearts and thick leaves.
A very decorative plant which can be planted in the flower garden and also produce good quantities of delicious tasting food.
The seeds should be planted 1cm deep in trays of deep seedraising mix with plenty of space separating the seeds.
Transplant into the garden when about 15-20cm tall.
Plant 1m apart in rows 2m apart or individually in corners etc.
Makes a nice show in the flower garden
