Melon Casaba Golden Beauty:
This medium sized, 15-19cm round fruit has a wrinkled but not netted skin and ripens to a rich golden colour. It is highly prized for its superb flavour, having clean white flesh similar to a honeydew.
It originated in Turkey and will keep well into winter.
Melon seed should be sown 1.0-2.0cm deep directly into the garden in richly composted soil.
Space the plants 50cm apart in rows 1.2-1.5m apart.
Sow three weeks after the last frost has finished in Cold and Temperate areas and from September
to February in Tropical and Subtropical areas.
Melons do very well when a nitrogen fixing plant, such as clover or pea plants are grown with them.
Despite a mistaken belief otherwise, melons do not ripen once picked so leave them to mature on the vine until the stem comes away from the fruit with ease.
