Spinach Viroflay:
This high yielding spinach plant grows quite large and has leaves which can reach 25cm in length.
The slightly savoyed leaves are a rich green with excellent flavour.
It can reach 60cm tall and matures in 40-50 days.
It withstands very cold conditions and is low in oxalic acid making it the sweetest of all spinaches.
The young leaves are suitable for baby leaf production. They are excellent for salads and stir fries.
It grows very easily and can grown in partial shade.
It does best in free draining soils with compost mixed in.
Apply plenty of water as with any leafy crops.
Apply liquid fertiliser to ensure lush foliage.
Sow seeds from late summer to early winter.
Very Early spring sowings can be made in cooler climates.
Sow 0.5 cm deep. Plant 2 to 3 seeds every hole spaced about 30cm apart and use the thinnings for baby leaf salad.
This plant is the first seed planted in spring time.
