Brassica rapa var chinensis, Pak Choi Green.
This strain of Pak Choi is a compact variety, with light green stems and glossy, dark green leaves.
It is a very fast maturing plant that one can start picking outer leaves from at only 3 weeks from planting.
It is fully mature and ready to harvest 45-50 days from sowing.
Pak Choi requires the same growing conditions as cabbage to which it is very closely related.
Ensure your soilis enriched with lime and plenty of organic matter. Make sure enough water is given for rapid growth.
Sow seed all year round, although growth will be slower in the extremes of winter and summer.
In summer it has a tendency to bolt to flower but this is no problem as the flower heads can be eaten in salads, stirfries, and steamed as you would broccolini heads.
Make sure you plant regular sowings for a continuous supply in your kitchen.
Sow seed 0.5-1.0 cm deep Space plants 20-30 cm apart in rows 30-45 cm apart.
