I have been given some flat leafed parsley seeds to sow. Is there a certain time I should sow these seeds or is any time good and how do i go about sowing them successfully.
Sow parsley seed early in the spring in a tray to transplant or alternatively sow them directly in the border or herb garden.
Plants do best in cool, moist weather and fresh young foliage is milder than that which is grown in hotter climes.
Curly-leaved parsley is the most popular with gardeners, perhaps because it's prettier, but cooks like the flavor of flat-leaved, or Italian, parsley better. Both have the distinctive parsley flavor, but the taste of flat-leaved varieties is said to be richer than the curly-leaved types, without the bitter overtones.
Both varieties produce their best foliage towards the centre of the plant. As the clumps grow, prune the outside stems all the way to the ground to encourage new growth in the middle.
Discard old leaves as they fade; fast-growing clumps will quickly replace them.
