Would someone be able to tell me how to propagate clivias from seed? or can it only be done by division?
Do I wait until the seed pod is red, crack it open to dry out the seeds and then plant the seeds in spring?
I tried drying the red seed pod (whole) and planting it but it didn't work.
Thanks
Clivias can be propagated by seed.
When the pod is round, well coloured and soft you need to clean the fruit away from the seed and plant it straight away into seed raising mix, this is best done in spring. There is no need to dry out the seed or the pod - this won't help the seed to germinate.
Be patient, it may take a little while.
Frankly I think its easier to just divide them - they naturally multiply like rabbits so take advantage of the fact that they are already established, which is much more instantly satisfying than growing from seed.
