I have found some of the most amazingly deep blue coloured lobelia for by borders but I would like to try contrasting them with something other than Alyssum.
Does you have any suggestions?
Hey Don, Lobelia is a delicate, old fashioned, cottage style plant and it needs something in the same style to complement it.
I could recommend a few, starting with:-
- Dianthus - or Sweet William
- Cerastium tomentosum or Snow in Summer, much like Alyssum but bigger and lovely.
- Iberis amara - Rocket Flowered Candytuft
- Limanthes douglasii - the Poached Egg Plant
- Arabis causacsica - Double Rock Cress
- Arenaria montana - Sandwort
If you need some extra help just go to Plantfinder on this site, set some criteria like 'Annual/Perennial' and then 'Height' 0.1m to 0.3m and see what it suggests.
