Any idea where I could find information on trees and shrubs which work well poolside?
I live in Adelaide and am looking for a tree which wont drop leaves and gum resins into a swimming pool.
A shade tree with no low branches... any ideas?
Hey Traci, before you plant anything close to a pool make sure that it won't cause damage to the pool itself through invasive roots and also make sure that the plant can tolerate the salt and chlorine that will be heavy in that environment. In this respect avoid Umbrella Trees and Rubber Trees (Ficus).
Palms are always good as their leaf litter is sparse and large and therefore easy to retrieve, though some palms have huge clusters of fruit which can block up pool pumps as they fall.
Here's a few suggestions
* Cascade palm (Chamaedorea atrovirens)
* Parlour Palm (Chamaedorea elegans)
* Golden Cane palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens)
* Kentia palm (Howea forsteriana)
* Rhapis palm (Rhapis excelsa)
* Foxtail Palm (Woodyetia bifurcata)
