I have a staghorn fern that has a disease. Seems to attack around where the new leaves come out, seems to cut the leaves off before they have a chance to grow. There seems to be a furry type substance around it as well.
Can you tell me if there is anything that I can buy to help me with this one.
Thank you for your help.
Mealybugs and/or scale could be the problem Dawn.
These sap-sucking insects are pests but can appear to be diseases as they are skilled at making white, fluffy tufts of wax to disguise themselves from predators. This looks a lot like a fungal infection but it is in reality live bugs.
I'd suggest an insecticidal soap in the first instance, which may need a few applications to solve the problem.
