Purchased around 80 trees all bare root a mix of ornamental and fruit trees but the soil was just too waterlogged to plant. Managed to get about 50 planted but the remainder are in sandy loam and have budded and now in leaf. Can I still plant them out? Any hints to ensure their survival?
Yes, they can be planted provided you take care not to damage any new and tender roots. Try to secure a good rootball prior to lifting them out, hessian makes a good container which will then biodegrade once planted.
The sooner you do it the better - the less leaf they carry and therefore have to maintain moisture to, the better.
