I need to remove a great deal of fern that i have growing up the side of my driveway. Whats the best way to remove it so it wont grow back and not harm and trees that are next to it ?
I don't know if i should pull it all out, or spray some poison first then pull it out a few days later?
What should i do? I want all the fern gone as its taken over all the length of my driveway.
Hey Emma, I suggest that a strong solution of Glyphosate (Roundup or Zero) will do the job as it is systemic and travels in through the green fronds and on down into the roots.
You'll need to aware of spores e.g. its best to spray when the fronds are young and the plant hasn't generated any spores yet. However you can always re-spray later if more green shoots appear.
You'll need to be careful when spraying so as not to let any drift onto other green plants, though it is neutralised on hitting the soil so has no long lasting effects (not as bad as many claim).
