hi, i found a syzygium australe in a smaller pot in my garden. My mother in law had plans for it. I was wondering if I could use it as a bit of a privacy barrier because our garden is exposed. Is it possible to grow it to 4m in a pot? What size pot? How long would it take to get to get to 3m please? It is currently 1m high. Thank you. David.
Yes, Syzygium can be grown successfully in pots, they may not grow as tall as when planted in the soil. You want to start with a pot that is double the size of the current pot, as the plant grows tall you can increase the size again.
Use a quality potting mix that allows for good drainage and aeration, to avoid over feeding plant use a sustained release fertiliser.
Syzygium plants grow fast and take about 4 years to reach full height
