I want to grow chamomile to harvest for a soothing infusion drink. Does anyone know which is the best variety.
Hey Gwen, for the infusing of Chamomile for drinking and medicinal purposes, the best two varieties for use are the German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) or the Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile).
Both of these make a wonderfully soothing infusion and pose no harm toward pregnant, or breastfeeding mums with baby settling nicely after feeding if mum drinks Chamomile Tea (bit of a bonus).
The German variety contains vital minerals and Vitamin A, can be grown easily from seed and germinates quickly.
For a nice drink soak equal amounts of Mint with Chamomile, both herbs have same calming effect and make a delicious blend.
